Moment of Balance on Moments
Gendune Rinpoche introduced us to the prayer of Samantabadra.
One phrase particularly inspired us:
“… I imagine that on each particle in the universe there are as many Buddhas as there are particles in the universe…”
(Samantabhadra : Arya Bhadracharya Pranidhana Raja)
This multitude, this vast multiplication of happiness, goes beyond our concepts.
Not only on each plant, each head, each speck of dust is there a Buddha, but on every particle in the universe.
This is already difficult enough to imagine.
And then on top of that to imagine that on each of these particles there are as many Buddhas as there are particles in the universe…
It’s too much for our poor heads.
But Rinpoche taught us to always go beyond our limited capacities.
So how do we come close to this visualisation of the unimaginable?
Rinpoche always taught us to start from where we are.
If the multiplication in the prayer is too much for our limited minds, we begin with the visualisation of just one Buddha!
When we start with this approach we discover more Buddhas from one moment to the next.
It was from this that the photo-mosaic project was born:
Statues of the Buddha more or less hidden in the countryside.
The overall picture was inspired by a photograph by Bernard Boulanger. The details are the fruit of ten years of early morning walks in the marvellous region of the Combrailles.
Wishing you joy in your explorations.
